I inherited this book by Dr Martin Luther..at least it has his name in bold print on the title page. It was published by Concordia in 1883 and that's about all I know about it, other than the fact that it belonged to my grandfather, KM Strassburg. Here are the letters on the title page under his name: Sammtliche Schriften. It's hard to distinguish what that first letter is, since it is highly stylized. It could be a C or a G, and not an S at all. That is followed by: Dr Bob. Georg Waldh. Dreizehuter band. Crfte Abtheilung. Die haus Poftille nach Beit Dietrich. There is more. If you could be of any help, I would appreciate it very much.

Looks like Volume xiiia of the St.Louis Edition except mine says 1904. These are sermons for the home based on the Gospels of the Church Year as Veit Dietrich heard and recorded them. Saemmtliche is a collection of ML's writings edited by Dr.Joh.(an) Walsch. The St. Louis Editors compared his to other editions. Maybe the first edition was published in 1883. You could Google Walsch on his publising and editing. There is some question how much of this is from ML and how much Dietrich's own sermonizing. There is another of the Haus Postille (Vol.xiiib) by Georg Roerer. Both he and Dietrich were close to Luther.

Oh, thank you! I hadn't considered it may be sermons for the home, but should have, since my great-grandparents were homesteaders in ND in 1896. There were certainly no churches out on the prairie at that time. They did, indeed, preach in their homes before there was a large enough population to erect an actual church building. Thank you again!

We are close to ND in NW MN. There's alot to discuss between that of Dietrich and Roerer. Some think they each were trying to apmlify abit and claim ML as their source but anyway it's alot of fun. I was thinking that someone of your family may have inherited more of the St. Louis Edition.Maybe the great Agnes of Luther Index would have something to add as she has the Weimar Edition.

This was a REALLY interesting discussion. Thanks for all your input and clear explanations, Don. I hope you're enjoying your time back in the pulpit. Agnes

Would you believe I'm pretty slow especially getting out at 7:00 a.m. at -30degrees Fahrenheit! No wonder I can't loosen up but it looks like the winter may be broken and then what for an excuse?
