ML says it's proverb (Spruchwort). Any ideas where from? How about a translation? It concludes ML's letter of Aug.5,1536 to Andreas Ebert replying to the latter's concerns about a sixteen year girl who is obsessed with devouring coins including the Joachimsthaler. Wow!

My Latin is even worse than my middle high German, but the original goes:

Experto crede Ruperto, ut est proverbium Vale in Domino, et ora pro me!

Could the proverbe be " Vale in Domino, et ora pro me!"??

St. Louis has as the last sentence:"Gehab dich wohl in dem HErrn und bete fuer mich." Looks like "Vale in Domino, et ora pro me!" Should be a period after proverbium then? But I'm not certain. How about:"Put the rumor to the test before giving it credence."?

You're right. I left out the period after proverbium. It should be:

Experto crede Ruperto, ut est proverbium. Vale in Domino, et ora pro me!
