In letter on 16 April 1536 ML addresses Johann von Riedtesel as an Electoral Chamberlain in Saxony "und zum neuen Markt." That is "new market"?
Also ML passes on a request of two sons of "Michael von der Strasse, weiland Gleitsmann zu Borna"... Is he speaking of a place (Strasse) and occupation (Gleitsmann)?
Thanks in advance for your kind responses!

The only note I could find for "neuen Markt" is that one should compare it with "o.S. 284." If you can tell me what o.S. 284 is perhaps I can look further.

The business with "die zween Sohn Michael von der Straße, weiland Gleitsmann zu Borna" means I think that Luther is pleading the case for the two sons of Michael von der Straße, who was for a while Gleitsmann in Borna (placename). I'm not sure what "Gleitsmann" is. Perhaps some kind of hourly worker. Michael must be dead and the sons are stuck with his debts.

Funny the name in the Weimarer edition is "Riedesel."

Riedesel is more familiar to me too. Is o.S. the previous page #284?How you doing Agnes? Do you think Gleitsmann has to do with shoes? I saw that Berlin has a "new market "but what do I know!
Michael used to do his work on a street in Borna?

Michael von der Strasse appears as a person's name in Luther's Pastors: The Reformation in the Ernestine Countryside by Susan C. Karant-Nunn. I think you're right--"neuen Markt" has to be a place name like New Market--which is a place name in England.

Professor Susan Karant-Nunn also informs that "Gleitsmann" means an escort to caravans of supplies and/or persons.
