Any one know if St.Velten had the chicken pox? See ML's letter of September 1,1535 to Justus Jonas.

Chorea sancti viti (Latin for "St. Vitus' dance") is an abnormal involuntary movement disorder, one of a group of neurological disorders called dyskinesias.

Many thanks! My Editors were arguing whether these were the words of the Archbishop of Mainz or ML. Was denken sie an? "Er hat St. Velten am Halse".

I learned from Schaff that one of the abuses was to offer to St.Velten a chicken who had the pox instead of a pure chicken.

"St Velten" is not identical with the place "Velten" near Berlin. That name derives from the first name the place had in history "Feltzin" what is former "slavonian" (?) language.

WA translates "Er hat St. Velten am Halse" as "ist epileptisch." I think the words are Luther's. They note that it's wrong to put a colon after the preceding sentence--which would have made it something Eberhard von der Mark said. But my Latin is so non-existent I could be wrong.
